ABOUT THIS COMMITTEE
The European States Assembly brings together influential kingdoms and city-states, including Venice, Genoa, and the Byzantine Empire. The Ottomans were also impactful in the area, acting as a bridge between Europe and Asia. The Silk Road facilitated the exchange of ideas, art, and religions. European states were influenced by Eastern philosophies, technologies, and innovations, enriching their own cultures. European states were highly divided and conflicts were frequent. By the 15th century, the quest for direct sea routes to Asia led to exploration efforts.
The desire to bypass intermediaries have easier access to spices and silk became a driving force behind explorations. Delegates will navigate rivalries among European powers for dominance while balancing trade competition, alliances, and geopolitical maneuvering in the context of the burgeoning Silk Road trade network. As European powers seek to expand their influence, this committee will focus on negotiations for access to Eastern goods, maritime security, and the dynamics of power in the Mediterranean region.
