ABOUT THIS COMMITTEE

In 2003, the now infamous entrepreneur Elizabeth Holmes started a breakthrough health technology corporation, Theranos. Holmes boasted of her corporation’s ability to produce accurate and automated blood tests and diagnose with extreme speed and efficiency. But now, Holmes and her company are faced with harsh allegations that Theranos is fraudulent. They possess no such technology, the tests are fabricated, and they might even have a history of misleading partners and shareholders. Holmes now faces unimaginable stakes: the loss of her net worth and the loss of her company. Can she and her allies salvage anything in the wake of these accusations? Or will the bombardment of accusations take Theranos down? In an exciting committee that concerns the ethics of medical testing, the cost of doing business, and the underdog nature of entrepreneurism. Only the “truth” will decide Theranos’ fate.

Eileen Weng (she/her)

Eileen is a junior from Clayton, NC, studying Public Policy and Exercise and Sport Science (EXSS). She has been involved in Model UN since her sophomore year and has been a senior staff in UNCMUNC and a senior staffer in MUNCH. When Eileen is not writing a policy brief at the last minute or doing something Model UN related, you are more than likely to find her hanging out with friends, watching basketball, baseball, and/or football. She is also developing a love for volleyball, pickleball, and constantly trying to beat her NYT level-easy Sudoku (2 minutes and 5 seconds). Eileen is very excited to work on UNCMUNC XV and make it a memorable experience for everyone who attends!
