ABOUT THIS COMMITTEE
Ready for liftoff?
This crisis committee is all about the 1969 Apollo 11 lunar landing mission. Delegates will work together to tackle crises arising from the complex relationship between the United States and the Soviet Union during the Space Race, which was a Cold War struggle to dominate space through scientific innovation.
This committee explores Apollo 11 crew member Neil Armstrong’s famous words: “...one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” However, we have put a twist on it. United States Intelligence has just reported that the Soviet Union has been working on its very own Apollo 11 mission and has recently succeeded in putting man on the Moon before the United States. With the political climate of the 1969 United States, there is one thing left to do: follow through with the Apollo 11 lunar landing mission. Delegates must resolve the crises that come their way to secure a NASA lunar landing and bring the astronauts safely back home.

your Under-Secretary-General:
Paloma is an international student from Mexico in her sophomore year. She is studying Political Science with minors in French and Data Science. Paloma’s interest in International Relations and Political Science was sparked by living in different places throughout her childhood, such as Mexico City, Belgium, and a small town in New Jersey. She is so excited to form a part of the collegiate circuit as a member of UNCMUNC’s Secretariat. Apart from MUN, Paloma enjoys crocheting, reading thrillers, and oat milk lattes (which in her opinion, can be best enjoyed at Epilogue on Franklin Street).
